APTERA_NOTE

A black coat, a black top hat. The wardrobe, at least, is impeccable. Where a face ought to be hangs a long, pink lump of meat, swaying back and forth with every step. Frankly, it is hideous.

At the tip of its head, a single great eye that rolls about as the creature pleases. Around it, smaller eyes are clustered thick, and they go every which way. What manner of view it lives by — even I cannot say.

In the house it plays at being the doting head of the family. Its voice comes slow, gurgling as if drowning in sludge; yet run it through the translator, and out come words gone strangely poetic. — Before it ever lifts its eyes to me, I have already looked first.
