An old one. A dark red shell, yellow goggles, an apron. One arm is machinery, gripping a tool it never sets down; the other still keeps the shape of a beetle.

The left half of its face has already gone to bone. It finds broken things and mends them, every last one — and yet that one thing it has no intention of mending.

It builds machines made to have someone put inside them, one after the next. It appears to believe that making a thing bigger makes it stronger. On the day the one who climbed in did not come back, it spoke of nothing but how the machine had broken. Diligent, I'm sure.
